It was in the village of Lovely Lass in the Guyanese countryside in the late 1970s that David McAlmont first experienced the wonder of full moon light. Electricity was not a nightly certainty and there was no street light. When the full moon shone it bathed the countryside in a serene, lunar light that David liked to sleep in, despite his grandmother’s superstitious warning that his face would "twist". It was during this time that the moon became David’s favourite thing in the sky. It wasn’t long before he noticed that poets and writers of jazz standards felt the same way about it and he began to think about doing a set of songs inspired by the moon. After a year of performing and telling the story of Harold Arlen, with pianist Natasha Panas, David has decided to perform this dream standards set with guitarist Ben Barritt and has appropriately dubbed the set Lunar Tunes.
